As the leaves turn into Autumn’s rainbow and chilly weather rounds the corner, I knew gloves were very needed. A pair of colourful and bright gloves, to cheer up the dreary British weather. Some stash raiding, digging on Ravelry and several hours of podcasts later, I have them. My new colourful knitted mittens. Perfect for the chilly walks I hope to do in the coming season.
Pattern notes
Let’s Walk mittens by Barbara Nalewko
Knitted size 2, with adjustments:
- 2×2 ribbing on cuff, using 2mm needles to fit my narrower wrists.
- 5 rows of rib on thumb to suit my yarn combo.
Yarn
West Yorkshire Spinners Signature 4ply yarn. Colourways:
- Main body: Sunset Bouquet by Zandra Rhodes.
- Contrast for ribbing: Fuschia from Solids range.
Techniques
- Magic loop, two at a time from cuff to fingertips. Thumb was knitted magic loop too, but each hand was done individually.
- Reduced my yarn tails with weaving in ends as you go technique from Kayla Litton. I find weaving in tails annoying, so glad I discovered this technique.
- Alternate cable cast on โ my go to for ribbing.
- Jeny’s surprisingly stretchy bind off for the cast off. A new-to-me technique, but pretty easy so will definitely use again.
