Sometimes the burst ones have the best energy, but other times you really need a long time to get into the groove!
First 4 sketches were done on Vicky Saumarez’s classical drawing course last year, using sight size technique and 3 hours for each one. The rest took 20, 15, 10, 5 and 2 minutes at drop ins this year. All used pencil or charcoal, and a little chalk for the first.
Glad I’m slowly chipping away at sketch habits lingering from fashion training.
3 hour poses
Sight size technique was more measuring than I was used to. It made for a more proportional drawing than my usual! I got quicker at doing it with each pose. It’s certainly useful to know, even if I don’t use it for drop in classes.
Quicker poses
These range from 20 to 2 minutes in an untutored class.
